Olive leaf extract from Healthwell contains extracts from olive leaves with a high concentration of oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol which are powerful antioxidants. These polyphenols are important substances for the olive tree that protect it from microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and parasites. It is largely thanks to them that the trees get so old and rarely attacked or ill. Olive trees thrive in warm and humid Mediterranean climates and therefore also need protective substances against UV radiation. Olive leaves also contain far more antioxidants than olive oil and 11 important polyphenols that are not found in the oil.

What are olive leaf extracts good for?
Olive leaf extract is extracted from olive leaves, which are very rich in the substances hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein. These substances are absorbed in the small intestine and then act as powerful antioxidants in the body. EFSA, the European Food Safety Authority, has determined that an intake of at least 5 mg oleuropein is required to be effective. At this dose, olive leaf extract is a powerful antioxidant that protects against oxidative stress on the body's cells and LDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol is vital for us humans, but when the cholesterol is exposed to oxidative stress, for example in chronic inflammation or from external stress, the cholesterol can be converted into small dense particles that stick to the vessel walls and in the worst case lead to cardiovascular disease.
