What are chia seeds?

Chia seeds are small, tiny seeds that come from the plant Salvia hispanica, a plant related to mint and sage and found in Central and South America The small power seeds have a thousand-year old history and were used for example by the Aztecs as healthy food. The seeds may have different colours, but this does not make a big difference in taste or nutritional content. In Sweden, it is mainly the black and white seeds that can be found on the shelves of grocery stores. Chia seeds ECO come from the chia seed's country of origin, Mexico, where they are grown at high altitudes according to organic and eco-friendly standards.

Why are chia seeds so popular?

Recently, chia seeds have been referred to as a superfood. This is due to its many uses as well as its high nutrient content. Chia seeds contain more omega-3 per gram than salmon, high-quality protein and fiber. They also contain a lot of fibre. Chia seeds that are mixed in liquid have a fantastic ability to swell and form a jelly, which makes them excellent to use in cooking, baking and even in desserts. This ability also makes them popular in desserts. The swelling also leads to an increased and longer-lasting feeling of satiety. Chia seeds can absorb up to 12 times their own weight in liquid.
