What is hyaluronic acid?
Despite its name, hyaluronic acid is no acid but is structured as a sugar. Hyaluronic acid, or hyaluronan, is an endogenous substance naturally present in the skin and synovial fluid. Synovial fluid is found inside our joints, where it acts as lubricant for the joints so that they can move smoothly. Synovial fluid also serves as a shock absorber for the joints, to help us withstand compressive forces.
However, hyaluronic acid is highly sensitive to free radicals that break down the hyaluronic acid. Healthwell Hyaluronic Acid Plus is therefore fortified with citrus bioflavonoids from natural sources, high in vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant that protects against free radicals. Vitamin C also contributes to normal collagen formation. Collagen is a fibre protein, which is also found in the skin and joint cartilage.
Hyaluronic acid and joints
Hyaluronic acid is often associated with joint function, and it is in the synovial fluid where hyaluronic acid primarily plays a role. Hyaluronic acid sometimes occurs in combination with MSM and collagen and can be advantageously combined with these substances. The advantage of isolating only pure hyaluronic acid in a dietary supplement is that you can combine it in the right dose to suit your needs. Try combining Hyaluronic Acid Plus with Healthwell Collagen Plus or Healthwell MSM Powder.
Hyaluronic acid and the skin
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the skin and is a commonly used component in care products for hair, skin, and nails, as well as in beauty products and creams for skin and facial care. Hyaluronic acid has strong moisture-binding properties, which is good for dry skin and/or mature skin.
Try Hyaluronic Acid Plus as a nutritional supplement for your joints, hair, or skin, in addition to a healthy lifestyle.
