What do iodine and tyrosine do in the body?
Iodine is an important mineral that is needed for the body to function optimally. Iodine is part of all the body's hormones and above all has an important role as part of the thyroid hormones. The thyroid hormones in turn participate in the metabolism.
Healthwell Iodine+Tyrosine also contains the amino acid tyrosine in the form of L-tyrosine, which is the free form of tyrosine that can be easily absorbed and used by the body. Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that we can produce ourselves in the body in small quantities. Tyrosine contributes to building up all the body's proteins, and also acts as a precursor to the thyroid hormones as well as dopamine and norepinephrine.
Both iodine and tyrosine have an important role in the functioning of the thyroid gland as they attach to each other and together form the thyroid hormone thyroxine. Thyroxine affects almost all of the body's functions, but is especially necessary to regulate metabolism, i.e. how the body converts energy into nutrition. It is therefore very beneficial to take iodine and tyrosine together.
Why is it important that the thyroid gland works well?
The thyroid gland is important for many of the body's functions, including metabolism. In some people, thyroid hormones can get out of balance, which can lead to various health problems. An overproduction of thyroid hormones is called hyperthyroidism, and causes symptoms such as fatigue, palpitations and weight loss. If the production of thyroid hormone is instead too low, the condition is called hypothyroidism. Then the symptoms can instead appear as increased coldness, weight gain, pain in the joints and hair loss. A well-functioning thyroid gland is therefore important for us to feel good and function well in everyday life.
Do iodine and tyrosine have any side effects?
A normal intake of iodine and tyrosine causes no side effects. Tyrosine is harmless even in large doses, but a higher dose does not produce any additional effects. However, iodine should not be overdosed as doses of over 1000 mcg can cause disturbances in hormone production. Follow our dosage recommendation to avoid possible side effects. Take 1 capsule a day with a meal.
