How Do Essential Oils Work?

Nourish the body with a moisturising and nourishing body oil. With just a few ingredients, you easily mix a skin oil that both penetrates deep into the skin and at the same time moisturises the skin's outer layer.

A body oil is a good way to nourish the skin from the outside in so that it maintains its luster and resistance to external influences. In addition, an oil can help bind moisture to the skin so that it doesn’t dry out in the future. We have developed a simple guide to making your own body oil and you will find all the ingredients in our range from Pure and Healthwell.

How to make organic body oil

Ingredients for 100 ml of body oil:
• 30 grams of cold-pressed organic coconut oil
• 70 grams of cold-pressed organic argan oil
• Possibly a few drops of essential oil

Proceed as follows:

Measure the ingredients carefully to achieve a 30/70 ratio. Carefully melt the coconut oil in a water bath, about 30 degrees is enough for the oil to melt. Too high a temperature can reduce the oil’s good properties, so a water bath is enough.

Mix in the argan oil and stir well. Then add a few drops of the essential oil if desired. For example, you can choose lavender oil which has a wonderfully floral scent that has a calming effect, or eucalyptus oil or peppermint oil which has a refreshing scent. Pour the mixture into a resealable bottle and then oil the skin as often as you wish, preferably immediately after showering and using an exfoliator.

Why use body oil?

A body oil is an alternative to a skin lotion to moisturise and care for the skin. Vegetable and cold-pressed oils often contain high levels of important fatty acids that penetrate into the skin and deeply moisturise, helping repair the skin's outer barrier so that you can avoid surface dryness and other issues.

Body oil can be used on most skin types and is not just for those with dry skin. The oil can be used several times a day, but oil is often best absorbed in connection with the skin being cleansed and when it is moist. Therefore, it can be a good idea to apply your body oil right after showering when the skin is both clean and moist. The skin oil has a particularly good effect if you have exfoliated the skin beforehand with a body scrub, as you have then opened up the pores in the skin so that the oil can penetrate more easily into the skin.

Good oils for the skin

Which oil is best for the skin depends a bit on the skin type you have, but preferably choose a cold-pressed oil as these retain all of their excellent properties because they are produced very carefully. Coconut oil is a popular base in body oil because it is emollient and mixes well with other oils, and it’s an affordable oil. You can choose from both scented coconut oil and unscented coconut oil.

Argan oil is one of the most widely used oils for the skin and contains both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. It is also relatively odourless, which means that you can easily add your own fragrance to the oil.

Jojoba oil actually consists of waxes, which is what makes jojoba an excellent moisture binder. Jojoba is therefore very suitable for dry skin to which you want to bind a lot of moisture.

Rosehip seed oil with its vitamin A is often used to relieve impure skin and acne. Rosehip oil should be used with caution, as the acid retinol is very powerful and can irritate the skin.
