Iron supplement
Iron from Healthwell is fortified with vitamin C for better absorption in the body. Iron is an important mineral that plays a vital role in several of the body's functions. An adult has about four grams of iron in the blood, the largest proportion of which is found in the haemoglobin of the red blood cells, which carries oxygen-rich blood to all the cells of the body. Iron also plays an important part in normal immune system function and helps to reduce fatigue. Iron is even more significant to ingest if you're a woman of childbearing age, if you're pregnant, a vegetarian, vegan, if you do intense exercise, or if you're a blood donor.

Why do we need iron?
We need iron in order to oxygenate the blood and thus our cells, but also to keep ourselves strong and healthy. Iron is a mineral only needed in small quantities, but it is necessary for you to get, as it is a basic part in haemoglobin and in myoglobin. Haemoglobin absorbs oxygen from the lungs and transports it through the bloodstream to the cells and returns carbon dioxide in the opposite direction. Myoglobin partly works in the same way as haemoglobin but is a red pigment of protein and iron present in the muscles that facilitates oxygen transport in the muscle fibres as well as provides a certain amount of oxygen supply. Iron supplements may be useful for those with periodically low iron levels, for example those in the risk group for low levels.
