- What is schisandra?
Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis), also called butterfly vine, are small red berries originally from Asia. The berry is highly nutritional and has been used for a long time because of its interesting properties, not least during periods of stress. Schisandra is absorbed quickly into the body and breaks down slowly which makes it more effective.
Schisandra chinensis is part of the adaptogenic plant family, which possess unique and sought-after properties. An adaptogen helps the body adapt to current stressors such as stress, exertion and temperature. An adaptogen helps regulate the body without being habit-forming. Alongside schisandra, rose root, Russian root and ginseng are examples of adaptogens.
Schisandra during stress
Schisandra has traditionally been used during periods of stress and feelings of fatigue and exhaustion, thanks to its properties as an adaptogen. Prolonged stress has a negative effect on the body and can lead to poor sleep, which in turn can lead to concentration difficulties and irritation.
